AMG REVIEW: Given their status as one of the most acclaimed and road-tested live bands of their generation, it's somewhat surprising that as of this writing, nearly 20 years into their career, Yo La Tengo has yet to release a full-fledged official live album. In the meantime, this promo-only EP -- issued in support of the Fakebook LP and its "Here Comes My Baby" single -- will have to suffice. Containing four live tracks recorded in Berlin in May 1989 (along with the trio's WFMU "Speeding Motorcycle" collaboration with Daniel Johnston, later collected on the Genius + Love = Yo La Tengo compilation), the disc captures YLT in their natural environment, unleashing an impressive white-noise squall influenced equally by the Velvet Underground and Neil Young & Crazy Horse, whose "Barstool Blues" gets cover treatment. A real rarity, but essential for collectors. -- Jason Ankeny
