The Dirty Three make some of the most passionate and beautiful music there is. Run, swim, or parachute over enemy lines to see them. My favourite is 1996's Horse Stories, but it's all frabjous.
Pretty much all of their recorded output, as far as I know, is recorded live in the studio, so you hear the wonderful bleed of the amplified strings rustling the drum kit, and feel the trio surge together through their music's sad lows and manic highs. Warren Ellis is a real madman to watch onstage, performing naughty undulations with his supposedly-delicate violin that Hendrix might have done, or curling up all fetal just a foot from his amp and cranking the distortion to unhealthy levels. Who knew that so much full-on carnal rock 'n roll could be oozed out of a snooty orchestral instrument?
